How could one party holding this kind of super majority be a good thing?

It's not a good thing at all. No matter the party in power - the loss of checks & balances is *never* a good thing. Only morons would be smug about it. Morons who probably shouldn't vote, if they can't manage to keep a responsible eye on their elected officials.
